Happy Monday everyone!
I was holding out on some exciting news last week . . . I’m have a studio! It’s not large or anything, but provides the perfect space for me to blog, shoot styled photographs and meet with clients. Our apartment was quickly filling up with props, DIY projects and extra furniture. As you may know, the Bay Area is crazy expensive. Trying to move to a larger apartment just wasn’t an option. I realized I didn’t enjoy working at home. I do enjoy working for myself, but couldn’t focus 100%. I started browsing for studio spaces after my friend Rebekah convinced me it was possible to take the next step.
I assumed it would be years before I could/should/would get a space of my own. So I am taking a very baby step, and moving into a small space. It’s right here in Oakland, located in a beautiful historic building. I’m able to walk to my office and give myself set hours to work. I already feel the benefits of separating work and home. There’s plenty of natural light and a garden (with camellias!) outside my window. Planning Pretty HQ is here!
I have work to do before the space is ready. I need to paint, find great affordable storage, fabric, a pretty mini fridge and create a decor scheme that reflects myself and my brand. I have a wish list, budget and a few brands I may reach out to for sponsorship. It would be amazing to do a big reveal on another site or blog. I look forward to sharing my progress with all of you on the blog and Instagram. Currently my desk, supplies for upcoming shoots/posts, a tea kettle and a pair of storage ottomans are all I have in the space. It’s functional, but I can’t wait finish setting up.
February is going to be an exciting month. I turn 27 in a few weeks, have the new studio and I’m expanding Planning Pretty to officially include services. I already offer product styling/photography and content creation for companies and hope to increase this business. Additionally, I will offer consultations services for home decor, weddings and parties for anyone needing a little advice. I am launching a services page soon with a bit more info. I hope to evolve, grow and edit my services over time along with the Planning Pretty brand.
I would love to hear your stories on taking big steps, risks and leaps of faith. Please share what big step you recently took or if you’re struggling to make that decision. We’re all in this together!
