A couple weeks ago, my husband and I spent our first anniversary in Mendocino, CA. It took us forever to pick a destination. We only booked our trip a few weeks before!
Yes crazy, not very planner of me to do. The somewhat spontaneous trip turned out to be so relaxing, that by the end of it I was ready to move the northern coastal town.
I learned about Mendocino from my brother, who visits the quiet town all the time, and on Apartment 34. We found a hotel deal for Hill House Inn and read fantastic reviews about this bed & breakfast. I was very excited about the Victorian decor in our room!
It’s a crazy road to get to Mendocino from the bay area. Thank God it was daylight! Seriously the winding road and tree canopy makes this road-trip beautiful and scary. If you decide head up, make sure you leave with plenty of daylight left in the day.
We hadn’t gone on a real vacation since our honeymoon, so we spent the trip just wandering and exploring. Everything was spontaneous with only a little bit of planning. The town is completely walkable. Main Street is so adorable and just across from the ocean. We stopped in all the small shops and spoke with different shop owners, sampled browsed our way through tons of unique products. Favorite purchase, a peach cobbler jam, yum!
The weather is gorgeous in Mendocino during the summer. So sorry we didn’t bring bathing suits! But we didn’t enjoy the beautiful almost island-like views as we relaxed on the beach. But we did spend an afternoon picnicking at the botanical gardens. We had lunch among thousands of dahlias!
This weekend we’re off again on another adventure, this time Seattle! I’m so excited it was one of my resolutions to visit the emerald city this year :)
If you have any suggestions for Seattle send my way! I have a list already but love personal suggestions. We leave tomorrow…
