As girly as I am, I love football! I grew up in a football-loving house, went to a super football enthused high school and have been a 49ers fan for over a decade. So of course I am excited about this Sunday’s Super Bowl! Not to mention I love Beyonce, can you say best halftime show ever!
The one thing I hate about football, is that it’s perceived as a “boy” thing. It is so not! Today I am going to show you how the girls can have just as much fun with football’s number one partner, beer!
There are so many delicious, yes really delicious beers that absolutely appeal to the female tastebuds. Being married to a beer enthusiast has exposed me to these girly beers and I’m happy to share my favorite four today. Whether you’re throwing Super Bowl party or hanging out a bar to watch the big game, these are definitely the beers to drink!
The first is Rosée d’Hibiscus by Brasserie Dieu Du Ciel. It’s exactly what sounds like, sweet and perfumed just like roses and hibiscus. This French-Candian wheat beer is spiced with the aroma of roses and taste of hibiscus. It doesn’t get any prettier than this!
Next is Hoegaarden, a wit-blanche which means a light and refreshing white beer. When you pop open the bottle it kinda smells like bubblegum, amazing right?! I love drinking this at bars with any kind of bar food, similar to a hefeweizen. The Belgians definitely got it right with this one!
What girl doesn’t love chocolate? Yea that’s what I thought! This next beer is Young’s Double Chocolate Stout and it is absolutely chocolatey. It’s an English beer, so a little bit of a stronger taste but the chocolate knocks out any bitterness. Perfect as a drinkable dessert or if you really wanna take it up a notch, make an ice cream float!
Lastly but not least (because this is my favorite!) is Timmermans Strawberry Lambic. If you are at all familiar with fruit lambic beers, you know it’s like drinking a delicious sweet & fruity cocktail! As soon as you pop the top the scent strawberries burst open. This is my go to beer!
As best you can, different types of beers should be served in a specific glass. The correct glass helps maintain the proper taste and aromas. Libbey makes an amazing assorted set of six glasses ($20). The Rosée d’Hibiscus is best in a goblet, Hoegaarden in a vase, the chocolate stout in a English pint and Timmermans in a tulip as shown above. You can also sample out the beers in these cute little glasses ($30) from Crate & Barrel!
Trust me these beers will not disappoint. I’ve convinced so many women that beer is not gross by sharing these beers! Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, BevMo, and specialty wine/beer stores carry these beers in addition to bars. There are few other brands so if you can’t find the exact brand, ask for a fruit lambic or stout.
So don’t feel left out when all the guys are drinking their Budweisers & Coronas. You can still be fabulously feminine during the beer-drinking extravaganza called Super Bowl!
Oh yeah, and GO NINERS!!!!
