So I got a little head of myself this week. I’m so excited for Easter that I decided to dye my eggs early! As a kid I always went overboard with color. Now I’m much more a fan of monochromatic color schemes. My color for 2013 is heavily inspired by my wedding color, aqua. I’ve fallen in love with every shade from mint to turquoise. So of course it’s my color scheme for this Easter! I could decide on one shade so I decided to go with ombre eggs!
Materials are so easy. Really just pick up a pack of Easter egg dye, the dye cups, and of course eggs! If you want very vibrant colors you’ll need vinegar, and lemon juice for moderate color. For pastels, just water.
Follow the dye instructions on the packaging. You all remember how easy these were right?
The trick for ombre is using the same dye color, but leaving each egg in the cup for different lengths of time. The longer it sits, the darker the color. Piece of cake! You can create the ombre in whatever color or colors you like. Pinks, oranges, greens, maybe blue to purple!
Instead of a traditional Easter basket, why not create a cute little nest. I bought dried excelsior found in the floral section at Michaels. I also found the cute little bird at Michaels!
If you want to keep your eggs around for a while be sure to put them back in the fridge. Don’t forget to boil your eggs before you dye. I did a huge batch so it took about 40 minutes to boil a dozen eggs.
I found these cute little pails at Target in the dollar section. I couldn’t pass on the polka dots!
I have a few more tricks up my sleeve before Easter to share with all of you! Hint: I will need lots of sugar for one of the posts. And if you don’t celebrate Easter, well these are an adorable idea to celebrate Spring!
