Happy Thursday everyone!
This month I’m finally finishing up my studio. All the major furniture has been in place, but all the small details were still uncompleted. The past couple of weeks my husband and I powered through lots of little DIY projects. Needless to say the final reveal is coming soon! But back to the focus of today’s post, margaritas for Cinco de Mayo. I featured this recipe on Casa and Company last week and it was favorite. Whether you’re throwing a fiesta this weekend or just hanging out at your local cantina (aka your couch), this margarita recipe is delicious and festive. In case you’re curious I picked up these fun props while in San Diego. Check out Lula Flora on Etsy for similar decor :)
This is an old blended cocktail recipe my husband used make. Originally we used other clear alcohols like vodka or rum, but I thought tequila might be great to try. If you are having a party, go all out and stuff a piñata with hard candy. Then use that candy for the margaritas!
Candy Margaritas Recipe
Ingredients (for two servings)
- 4 oz of silver tequila
- 2 oz of triple sec liqueur
- 4-5 Jolly Ranchers, original flavors (or substitute another fruity hard candy)
- 2 cups of ice cubes
- Izze soda or other natural soda
- Fruit slice candies
- Lime juice (if it’s too sweet)
This recipe makes a blended margarita with a yummy slushy consistency. Start by setting up a blender large enough to hold 16-20 oz of liquid. Add the two cups of ice to the blender first. Pour in the tequila and triple sec.
Open up a bag of Jolly Ranchers and begin sorting the flavors. Group together all the cherries, grape, watermelon, and so on. Take a quick count to determine how many batches of each flavor you can mix into margaritas. Usually watermelon has the least amount, even though it’s the best!
Once you chose your first flavor, unwrap about 5 pieces. Add the candy to the blender and turn on to medium speed. Pulsate until the margarita has the right slushy drinkable consistency. If the mix is too watery add more ice cubes and another Jolly Rancher. If too thick, add a splash of the natural soda or more tequila.
To make a different flavor, just rinse out the blender and make another batch. If you’re having a large party, buy a few bags of Jolly Ranchers, sort the candy and make full pitchers of the different flavors. Just multiply the recipe by four to fill a standard glass pitcher.
Serve in a traditional margarita glass, clear so you can really see the candy colors! Add fruit slice candies to the rim for garnish. These are pretty sweet but you can add lime juice and a flavored salt or other spices to the rim to cut the sweetness. Feel free to leave out the tequila and triple sec for a non-alcoholic version. Just add more soda :)
So throw a fiesta this week and a make a few of these yummy cocktails for a good time! Feliz Cinco de Mayo!!
