This weekend was quite a busy one. Friday my husband threw a semi-surprise birthday party for me to which awesome friends from all over California came. Drank champagne and had a blast even though I didn’t dance on a table. My shoes were too high!
But the rest of the weekend entailed hosting. First house guests, then an intimate Oscar dinner party! My husband and I are great at entertaining, it’s definitely one of the reasons I married him! He cooks, I bake and decorate. Simple.
This past weekend of hosting definitely inspired today’s planning tip, knowing your guests. I can’t stress how much easier this makes throwing any party, dinner or pleasing house-guests. When it’s close family this is definitely a little easier, but even providing hospitality to good ole’ friends can be tough.
The thing is to understand what they are looking forward too. I know that my friend who visited this past weekend really enjoys scenic views and great food. So, we took her out to take photos of the Golden Gate from Crissy Field. We spent the day driving around San Francisco and then had an amazing dinner where the specialty is one of here favorite foods. The result, she had an amazing time!
Our Oscar dinner was a hit as well, not only because of our kitchen skills, but because we knew our guests appreciated great presentation. We set up our home perfectly, made fancy cocktails, fresh flowers and delicious dessert.
If you’re entertaining an acquaintance, then put your best foot forward. Not sure about their favorite food? Make your best recipe and they can’t refuse! Have no idea where to take them? Show them your favorite places, and I’m sure they will appreciate the thought. Hosting guests is all about mixing kindness and good impressions.
