As I mentioned before, we’re hosting Christmas Eve for our family this year. At first, I stressed about the dining area decor. Then I realized, that we already owned a lot of great basic pieces and just needed to experiment. I brought out my favorite dishes and linens and I kid you not, designed this table in 30 minutes.
Start with your favorites
How you ask? Start with your favorites. I love our white, sparkly and other neutral pieces. I spread them onto our table first. It’s better to lay out too much and take away then to be hard on yourself. Don’t over think this. What you love will naturally stand out whether it’s inside your china cabinet or the decor aisle in a store.
Eliminate what doesn’t fit
Once you have a ton of plates, linens and glassware, eliminate anything that feels out of place. I originally started incorporating and icy blue into this table styling. It looked okay, but I knew have only neutrals would make more of a statement. Do the same with your curated pieces. Less is usually more.
Iron, Iron, Iron
When using any kind of linens on dining table, iron. Trust me your table look that much more professional. No one wants to sit with a wrinkled napkin or stare at the deep lines of a table cloth during dinner Even if you can’t get all the wrinkles out, do your best.
Add your favorite treasures
In addition to the basic dining pieces, I always love adding personal details. Favorite flowers, jewelry or little figurines will add lots of personality. I incorporated a strand of pearls, sparkly animals, lavender and hydrangeas. A few of my favorite things :)
Remember to keep it simple
By simple I don’t mean bare. Again don’t over think your table settings, this should take you all day to do. Use what you have and maybe by a few pieces special for the occasion. I purchased adorable lapin dessert plates as fun accent. Everything else I already owned and I let my natural aesthetic dictate the style of the table.
Styling a table for the holidays shouldn’t be a massive headache. There’s too many other things to do! I hope these tips help ease some of your worries. Remember have fun with your table decor this holiday season and beyond.
