Yesterday I shared some big news, I moved Planning Pretty into a small studio office! There are several before pics in the post, complete with my scattered props and multi-purpose desk. My husband and I are relieved to get more of our home back! Now the challenge of decorating for both style and function is the next step.
I started the studio design progress by first creating a floor plan. One of my favorite free online tools is Autodesk Homestyler. I can easily create a floor plan of any space after gathering a few measurements. It makes it so much easier to visualize a space. I drag in furniture and fixtures and get a sense of how the space could function. I also use the tool to try out paint colors!
Now it doesn’t have the exact furniture and decor I plan to find, but it gives you the general idea. For example, my actual ottomans double as storage boxes. I just need to reupholster in a pretty fabric. Also, I probably won’t place a rug quite so large on the left wall, but I couldn’t edit the dimensions in the software.
My “styling table” pushed up against the wall will actually be the Norden Gateleg table from Ikea or something similar. It collapses into a small side table when not in use and then expands into a dining table. It’s perfect for tablescape styling, DIY projects and then client meetings. That way I don’t have to keep clearing my stuff off my desk all the time and it saves valuable floor space.
I’m also gathering a few pictures as inspiration for the space to create a mood board. You may notice Pinterest feed flood with office decor pins. Accents and accessories are my favorite part of any room. My mood board will serve as my guide to colors, style and pattern. Can’t wait to share once it’s ready!
