I have a huge pet-peeve towards disorganized remote controls. I always straighten or hide all the billion remotes we own. But I came up with a better idea! I repurposed a blue tray from target and used a little bit of paint and decorative paper to spruce it up. This DIY is super easy, inexpensive and makes those ugly black remotes or other objects on your table look so pretty!
You’ll need:
- A wooden tray (Target or Michaels have inexpensive options)
- Craft acrylic paint in the color of choice
- Mod Podge, I used the glossy version
- Decorative paper (I went to Paper Source!)
- Two paint brushes approx. 1″ wide
First, clean the tray to make sure there isn’t any dirt or dust. Next, apply two coats of paint to the tray or use spray paint for a nice even coat. Allow to dry in between coats and touch up and spots if necessary. Make sure the tray is completely dry before adding the paper.
Measure and cut the decorative paper to fit inside the tray. You can also use fabric, wrapping paper, wallpaper, scrapbook paper, and cardstock, really the options are infinite! You can even mix and match! Place the paper in the tray to make sure it will fit.
Apply a thin layer of Mod Podge with a brush and carefully place the paper on top. Smooth out the paper and make sure it is laying completely flat. Allow to dry for 15-20 minutes and apply a coat of Mod Podge on top of the paper. Allow to dry again for 15-20 minutes and apply another coat. Feel free to repeat and apply more coats of Mod Podge till you reach desired glossiness.
Now add in the remotes, playing cards, matches, or whatever is used to float on your table!
