We are finally through the renovation stage for week six of the One Room Challenge. Walls are painted, the beds are fully restored and I can start bringing out the decor. We finished touching up the mural and painting the shelves and closet door to match. It’s truly magical, like a scene out of Bambi. We are happy we were able to replace the previous owner’s artwork with another mural. It adds a personal touch and it will be something Milo can cherish as he grows older.
Our vintage beds are complete too! Joe and his father sanded early 20th century mahogany beds, removed the damaged veneer and then re-stained to the original color. It was a very tedious process and took a couple weeks to finish. We originally paid $20 for the pair at a local vintage shop! With supplies we spent around $100. That’s amazing considering I was originally looking at beds that were around $400-500 each!
The twin mattresses arrived from Tuft & Needle. I chose the original twin mattresses with anti-microbial protection for peace of mind and added a waterproof cover. Milo was so excited to jump on the beds we would barely get them out of the box! They are definitely an upgrade from his crib mattress and sleeping squished in our bed.
I still have few more pieces to hunt down, but I can’t wait to share the bedding and some styling next week! Thank you for following along on our journey to renovate this bedroom and the cottage. Stay tuned for the final reveal during week eight! Also, be sure to read some of the other participants decorating journeys on the One Room Challenge blog.
