Happy June! We’re still making progress on the fairytale cottage. Most of the decor for the attic bedroom arrived and it is so cute. I can’t wait to share the special nightlight I found for Milo.
Big update this week for the room. I decided not to go with wallpaper. It was really pricey for us to spend $300-$400 on wallpaper. It’s definitely still something we want to add to other spaces in the house. Instead we asked our friend and local artist, Shelley Bruce, to paint a custom mural on the bedrooms little accent wall. It’s coming along beautifully and it’s so nice to have a personal touch to the space instead. Shelley used variety of colors from our leftover Clare Paint so that the mural would tie in with the colors throughout the cottage. Can’t wait to share the finished mural next week!
I’m also happy the vintage bed restoration is coming along too. Joe and his father removed the damaged veneer and sanded the bed frames. This weekend Joe is staining the beds and then they’ll finally be ready to put back together. He also bought new slats that way we won’t need a box frame under the mattress. The beds need to be low enough for Milo to climb on his own. They are still standard twin length so he can use them for a long time and older kids can also sleep upstairs. Keeping the beds low also helps with the low slanted ceiling. We ordered mattresses from Tuft & Needle. I love our mattress at the apartment and so we ordered two for Milo’s big boy beds.
As for the rest of the decor, I am still looking for a window covering solution for the double arched doors. The ceiling slants just above so I need to find a curtain rod that curves or comes to a point. I have some more research to do. Luckily in the summer this room stays warm so I’m not worried about a draft, but we’ll definitely need curtains in the fall and winter.
Also, still need to chose a play rug with the right dimensions for our floorpan. Ideally washable because of the inevitable spills and accidents of life with small children and pets. Each time I look for a new accent for the room, I refer back to my mood board I created using Spoak. It’s an easy to use online design tool and so much more affordable than other software. Spoak has made my design process manageable and consolidates all my ideas into one place. Now this isn’t a sponsorship, but I am sharing a referral code for anyone that would like to sign up. I just love it that much!
Those are the updates for this week! We’re almost ready to put the room together and show Milo his new space. Be sure to see all the other wonderful decor projects happening during the One Room Challenge this week.
