I know I’ve mentioned organizing and tidying a few times already this year. I read Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up a few weeks ago and it inspired us to get rid of so much. We’re still in the process of finding the right home for the possessions we kept. I tackled my office successfully and then moved on to the living room. With a new sofa in place, it was time to fix our media center problem. In our old Oakland apartment, we had a huge media center but it didn’t fit in our new Long Beach home. I finally found an open and airy shelving unit! However with all the open “cubbies”, I needed to find stylish storage containers to house our movies, electronics and games. With the help of Better Homes and Gardens products, I neatly reorganized and styled our media center.
I was in search of something with texture and a natural color. I found these Hyancith Cube Baskets for just under $15. They were the perfect size for the storage unit. I ordered six, two extra to keep around the house for loose papers, throws and pillows.
The baskets have plenty of space for our movie collection, board games, video games and extra cords. We love spending nights at home enjoying all of our entertainment goodies and our new organization system keeps everything perfect. I never wonder where a movie is because they’re all alphabetized and clustered by series. We never lose a Wii remote anymore because it always goes back into the same basket. Our board games, cards and even app-controlled BB-8 lives in the game basket. It’s just so much easier to clean up quickly when we’re tired and head off to bed.
I keep an extra basket off to the side as well, for fun pillows and extra blankets. We keep a lot of blankets in the house! Whenever we have a guest, it’s easy to just toss the blankets and pillows in a basket for a speedy clean up.
We no longer have clutter scattered around the room. Our living room is coming together quite nicely with the new sofa and now media center. I’m planning out a few more decor updates for the room, but it already feels completely different compared to 2015!
