Hi everyone! In my last few posts, I’ve shared a some of our decor progress for our new Long Beach, CA home. We started off the year by tidying up, getting a new sectional sofa and a new media center. I still have a long list of updates (especially the dining room), but these few changes have made our home more comfortable and stylish. I’m sourcing different accents to add to our space. A lot of what I love seems to be available at West Elm, but also more affordable options at Target and H&M. Yes, in case you didn’t know, H&M has home decor! Coincidentally the two Pantone 2016 colors of the year are the exact shades I picked out last year. Our dining room, kitchen and bath were painted in a Parisian blue, which is very close to the this year’s “Serenity” blue. I started purchasing accents like our Lulu & Georgia dining room rug and this pink martini table in “Rose Quartz” last year as well. When the Pantone 2016 colors were announced I jumped for joy!
If you’re unfamiliar with Pantone, they are the leading system for categorizing color. Designers of all kinds use their color guides as standards. A new color is chosen each year based on trends in fashion, decor, art, etc. Many of us are glad to see pastel colors chosen for 2016. The last few years were very dark, jewel tones (not my style at all).
That means you can expect to see lots of fashion and home decor choices in these two shades this year. Bounce over to Target and you’ll see an entire home decor section with the shades as well as white, marble and metallic accents to compliment the shades. I’m excited that I’ll have an easy time decorating our home! A few stores even curated their products to Pantone’s colors. Check out Lulu & Georgia and Domino!
The first image above is my concept for our living room. My colors are pink, blue, cream, some navy with marble and gold/brass accents. I’ve rounded up a few products that I’m considering below, including our actual sofa and media center. I’m also browsing wallpaper swatches for York Wallcoverings. They have beautiful designs for all styles. I love their floral and old world patterns especially. Check out my Instagram profile for daily updates!
- Restoration Hardware, English rolled arm sectional sofa in perennial navy linen
- IKEA Tomnas media center in white
- West Elm marble topped pedestal coffee table in brass
- West Elm marble oval coffee table in brass
- West Elm horizontal double rib throw blankets in pink, blue and grey
- H&M pink pillow and gold box
- West Elm Mongolian lamb pillow in rosette
I’m serious when I say our home is already drifting toward this trend completely unplanned. Our kitchen is exactly these colors. All my baking tools are “rose quartz” and the walls are “serenity”. We’re also considering these pale blue nonstick pans and Smeg appliances in a creamy white. I’m waiting for the magazines to line up to photograph our home!
What do you think of the new colors for 2016?
