As I mentioned in my last post, we recently completed a big organization process. There’s still a few kitchen/cooking items that need to be sorted through, but the biggest item we happily parted with was our sofa. Our former apartment in Oakland was a one bedroom. Whenever friends and family from SoCal would come visit, we conveniently pulled out the sofa bed and our living room was transformed into a guest room. Our sofa definitely did it’s job, but now we live in a two bedroom Long Beach home. We’ve setup a guest room for visiting folks and really didn’t need the sofa bed anymore. It was stylish, but I could not stand the color (not a big fan of brown shades) and it wasn’t that comfortable anymore. So, we finally took the big leap to seek out a new sofa this holiday season. Comfort and style were the highest priorities.
You may recall on Instagram that I fell in love with this sofa at HD Buttercup. We saw it once in store, kept thinking about it and so we went back once it was on sale. As soon as we sat down, we knew it wasn’t right. The sofa was the right size, but the seats just weren’t comfortable enough. They were mostly filled foam core and not enough feathers. You could feel the base board a little, which sucked. Over time, sofa cushions only flatten more. I really loved the style more than any sofa I’ve seen, but you can’t have a sofa that hurts your bottom.
So then we headed over to our local Restoration Hardware outlet (definitely a plus to living in Long Beach!). I found a ton of pretty chairs, linens, rugs and then spotted this sofa. We passed by it a few times before we tested it’s comfort level. It was perfect. Right size, chaise was on the correct side and I loved the English rolled arms. Many of the sofas I pinned over the past few weeks had rolled arms (they are shorter and more elegant). We put the sofa on hold and debated for some time if we should make the investment. I also could not figure out the color. From some angles it looks grey other blue. Technically it is a perennial navy textured weave, which makes it great for parties (aka spills). It’s a fabric that can exist indoors or outdoors, but is still for comfortable and soft. We knew whatever sofa we purchased needed to last a few years. This one definitely has longevity. I’d like to move on to other pieces in our home (like the dining room, yikes) and not have to worry about replacing a sofa in year or two.
So we bought the sofa! Now I’m in the midst of planning the rest of the decor. I’m eyeing a few coffee tables from West Elm and considering what accents to incorporate. Both Target Threshold and West Elm have tons of decor in the style we wanted. A new media center is in the works too and I’m hunting for objects and baubles to style it’s shelves. I’m putting together a design scheme and can’t wait to share.
Let me know what you think of the new sofa in the comments below!
