Hello everyone! It’s summertime and a lot of folks are moving into new homes. One of the first rooms I recommend decorating is your personal oasis, the master bedroom. I’ve partnered with the Better Homes and Gardens collection to spruce up our master bedroom. We’re considering a move ourselves! All the unpacking, re-organizing, and other tedious tasks will leave you exhausted. The first thing you’ll want to do is get a good night’s sleep. Having a space to unwind as you adjust and setup your new home will make the transition so much easier. Choosing your master bedroom decor early on will also give basis for the rest of your home. Its style will expand and flow into your living room, dining room, kitchen and bath. It is a great starting point!
One of the first decor decisions I like to make is the color scheme. I need to be able to visualize the space and I just can’t do that without color. For a bedroom, it is very important to choosing calming comforting colors. Now for me, that shades of blue. I’ve always loved having a blue bedroom and the grayson linen headboard with nailheads in navy is a beautiful pop in the space. When building a color palette, I like choosing a dominant color in both a deeper and lighter shade. Then, I pair a contrasting complimentary color. I love the contrast of coral and blue set against very white and modern background. I also like to add a little texture like a fluffy sheepskin pillow. It’s my dog’s favorite decor accessory too. Adding a neutral to the palette, such as grey, works well for any room’s color palette for balance. The neutral is great for furniture and other decor accents. We have grey nightstands, lamps and mirrored dresser.
Having all your basic bedroom furniture pieces will ensure that the space functions. Make a list of everything you’ll need to get, but hopefully you’ll have a lot of pieces already. Unless you’re upgrading your bed size or this is your first place, you’ll usually have all the basic pieces already. Of course you may want to switch or upgrade later on, but at least for the first few weeks you’ll have a bedroom that’s still stylish and functional.
Setting up your bedside table or nightstand is just as important too. It’s one of the first places you can express your personality in a new home. Your favorite books, vase, photographs and more can all be used to style a nightstand. I like to put some of my favorite possessions right next to the bed. It guarantees that I’ll feel a little bit of joy when I wake up in the morning.
A great experience for the morning after a big move, is breakfast in bed. Savor the new home and this new beginning with a few pastries and a french press. Relax and enjoy that at least one room is completed in the home. You can even flip through decor magazines to plan out the other spaces in your home!
