I’m in the midst of rearranging/redecorating our living room, again…
I’m in the floor-plan stage since I’m adding in a loveseat/settee this week, sort of a gift to myself since I’ve wanted it for a while. Plus my husband wants his own masculine chair. Granted it still needs to tie, but I understand his need for a man chair. The issue is figuring where we want to place it. It will be easier once in the space, but I like to know if a piece will truly fit.
With a small space like ours, it is always a good idea to play around with a floorplan of some sort before purchasing any large pieces. Here are few of the layouts were considering for our space keeping in mind that we love to entertain and have movie nights.
*Note the wall to the right of the dining table is really a counter connected to the kitchen*
This first plan is the closet to how I’ve always envisioned the space. When next to the window, you can see the beautiful lake down the street. I see myself being able to cuddle up on the settee and read while enjoying the view. The downside is having a pair of chairs right next to the dining table and it’s chairs. Bugs me a little for some reason.
This second layout is one we play around with from time to time. During Christmas, we rotated the sofa 90 degrees to face the decorated tree in front of the window. It does make the space feel smaller, but encourages conversation more than staring at the TV.
This floorplan is the easiest to implement, it doesn’t change the furniture around too much. I like that the pair of chairs creates a little window breakfast/tea area for us to enjoy on the weekends. However, I would love the settee to be more of a focus instead of having its back to the entrance, kitchen and dining area.
I thought I’d try something a little different with the last floorplan. Asymmetry can be quite nice if carried out in a cool way. Honestly I would just need to see all the furniture in the space together before committing to this layout.
First step is to get the new furniture in our living room and start shuffling pieces around. My poor husband always wonders why I want to rearrange the furniture every week. I think it’s the best and most affordable way to give your space a fresh look. You may just need to see your old furniture in a new perspective.
