Hello everyone! A few weeks ago I setup and designed the second bedroom in our apartment. We’ve always lived in one bedroom homes which meant guests always had to sleep on the pull-out sofa. Finally our family and friends have privacy and don’t have to stay in the middle of our living room. We decorated and personalized the room thanks to help of Tiny Prints! I shared the full reveal over on Domino.com along with tips for hosting last minute guests. No need to panic whenever someone gives you short notice :)
I started decorating the room with a simple standard bed frame. We decided not to invest in a full-out upholstered, canopy or other larger piece so that the room could evolve over time. Right now we have a full size mattress, but the frame can shift to queen or even smaller to a twin.
I picked up the really inexpensive IKEA Rast nightstand and customized with white paint (pure white by Sherwin Williams) and decorative handles from Michaels. If I change my “decor” mind, I can always paint it a different color or change the knobs later. It’s such a easy piece to build and transform and there are plenty of great DIY ideas out there for this nightstand. It was important that we find a night stand with drawers so that guests have a place to put some of their belongings. Putting a standard size dresser in the room just wasn’t a smart use of space.
Since we have hardwood floors, the room can get a little chilly. I picked up a pair of these adorable woven rugs from Home Goods for each side of the bed. I also found a coral lamp to match!
We live in a 1930s apartment with easy to use picture-molding in the bedrooms. To hang the custom prints of my flower photographs, we simple had to purchase picture hooks and brass chain from the hardware store. No nails or tricky measurements and it’s very easy to switch artwork later on.
I keep a few different sets of sheets appropriate for female, male and little guests (toys are bonus). I would feel really bad asking a guy to sleep on pink sheets! When no one is using the room, I keep it decorated for the ladies because I like the occasional nap or reading session in there :)
