I know it’s been a while since my first floral arrangement post. I spent time learning more about making arrangements and waiting for spring. Now all the beautiful flowers are available!
Today I’d like to share the centerpiece I made for our Easter dinner this past Sunday. It was very simple to make! I am in now way trained in the art of floral arrangements and it was still easy. There are just a few tips to remember when making an arrangement of any size:
1. Choose a variation of blooms. Pairing a larger flower with smaller and filling in with greenery will always look beautiful!
2. Be sure to select the correct vessel. A vase with a wide opening will only look full with a lot of stems. Fill the visual gaps between flowers with leaves, branches or other space fillers. That way you won’t have to spend as much on flowers.
3. Asymmetry is your friend! having a few stems or branches sticking out to the side looks great. Don’t try to put everything in a neat and perfect bunch. Stager the height of the flowers and greenery to create an interesting arrangement.
4. Ask the florist if any special care is needed for your blooms such as specific sunlight, water, food, or pruning.
My arrangement includes yellow spider mums, pink ranunculus, and israeli ruscus. I love the contrast of big pointy petals of the mums and the cute round shape of the ranunculus. Israeli ruscus is a great greenery filler!
As I always say, flowers are the greatest low commitment and inexpensive way to decorate a home. I love using flowers to try out different color palettes for a space. Not sure if purple will work in your room, buy a bouquet of purple flowers and test it out!
