Some of my favorite places to shop are Antique stores. In our old neighborhood, there was one on every corner. In our new city, I discovered a monthly fair, Alameda Point Antiques Faire, which has hundreds of vendors selling everything from vintage furniture to random nostalgia.
My husband and I found a wonderful mirror, but it wasn’t quite my taste so I decided to give it a makeover!
Painting the mirror was the first step. I tested the wood with sand paper and painted a small section and realized I wouldn’t need to sandpaper this surface.
I almost stopped after the first coat because it had a great vintage look! Still I wanted it to be a little bit brighter so I painted a second coat.
After everything dried (which was really fast!), I wanted to add a pretty detail to personalize the mirror even more. The fair had so many beautiful repurposed windows and mirrors with French-style etching like this one below!
I found glass paint and a lovely stencil to add a design to each corner.
And voila! The mirror has a brand new look! You can recreate this in any color you want just be sure to test the paint on the frame.
Here is my complete list of materials that are found at any home improvement and craft store:
- Paint (I used Behr Premium Plus flat paint, color sample size)
- Sponge brushes
- Stencil
- Martha Stewart glass paint “frost”
- Sandpaper
- Painter’s tape
- Protective tarp (save your floors!)
- Screwdriver (to separate mirror from base)
- Residue scraper (to remove paint from glass)
