Happy Friday! Today I’m actually touring the Modernica factory here in Los Angeles. The furniture design company is probably best known for its colorful fiberglass chairs. They are available in any shade you can image and I can’t wait to take a few pictures during our tour. For today’s post, I wanted to share a round-up of some my past flower arrangements on Planning Pretty. I love incorporating flowers into my styled photographs. I think flowers are an inexpensive essential to any home. It doesn’t take a skilled florist to create something beautiful. Often I buy my flowers from the market, a local flower stand or a farmer’s market. I make up the arrangement as I go, after choosing flowers with coordinating colors. I always try to buy what’s in season for optimal freshness and I never spend over $20 for a simple bouquet.
The photograph above shows my most recent bouquet. It includes seven stems of white and pink ranunculus, two anemone blossoms, tiny purple wildflowers that grow around the neighborhood and extra leaf branches that the flower shop through in for free.
I love take a few blossoms and adding them to a delicate vessel like a teapot. This arrangement is just three pink roses cut to the height of the pot. Try to always put your flowers in something that’s glass or ceramic to keep the flowers fresh. I often hide glass jars and cups inside plastic or metal vessels.
Peonies are one of my favorite flowers, especially this “coral bloom” variety. They start off bright coral and then slowly fade to a faint peach almost ivory color. I enjoy displaying in just a single bud vase or these milk glass containers.
I find that keeping an arrangement monochromatic can have a large impact on a table, nightstand or desk. This arrangement of a dozen peach garden roses was held together using a metal flower frog. You can find these at your local craft store for just a few dollars. It’s perfect for keeping blooms upright and tight together.
This was one of my larger arrangements for a Valentine’s Day table setting. Now this I did spend more then normal, but not too much more. I visited my local flower market where you can buy flowers in bulk for a discounted price. I spent just over $30 and I had TONS of flowers left over. I used a mix of pink roses, ranunculus and amaranths.
I think ranunculus might be my favorite flower. I find that I use it the most in my arrangements and I’m so excited when they become available in February (in California at least). I love scale of flower. It makes the perfect little bouquet, perfect for teacups or it can be mixed in with larger blooms.
Again, I used ranunculus for this bird cage arrangement. I found this decorative birdcage at Michaels, placed a small sweetheart vase inside and added a mix of colors. I varied the heights of each stem to create full look inside the birdcage.
This arrangement for a bridal shower photoshoot used mostly greenery. Greenery is always an inexpensive option for any arrangement. It looks quite beautiful on its own or with a few stems of a flower like lisianthus.
One of my favorite budget bouquets for under $10 are spray roses. This smaller variety of rose grows in clusters from one stem. This pink arrangement of my desk was just five stems of the flower. I always find these at my local grocery store in a variety of colors.
I hope your feel inspired to pick up a few flowers this weekend and try your hand at arranging. Spring flowers are definitely popping up already. Also, Bloom Nation is a great online service for ordering flowers and supporting your local florists. Get in the swing of spring and add some flowers to your home!
