Happy Friday!
So I was sitting in my studio yesterday, trying to figure out what to do with a bucket of old flowers. I hate throwing out bouquets, even after they’ve died. “No, babe don’t throw those out I’ll turn them into potpourri”, is usually what I’ll exclaim before my husbands dumps them in the trash.
Well I saved this buck of flowers and brought them to my studio. I sat there a few minutes trying to think how I could recycle the buds. Boom, it hit me make a wreath. I keep a dried wreath frame around, inexpensive from Michaels, and never remember to use it. I finally put it good use with this quick DIY. This really is a great simple way to reuse your flower bouquet from last weekend!
You’ll need a few materials to complete:
- Foliage – like eucalyptus, israeli ruckus, ivy leaves
- Small wild flower – something like sweet william or even smaller bloom
- One accent flower bouquet – white ranunculus shown in this DIY, but anemones, roses, or peonies work well too
- Wreath frame – made from branches/vines works best
- Flower shears
This wreath took me less than 10 minutes to arrange. Working with a wreath frame that has many nooks and crannies makes it so much easier to decorate. With this type of wreath, you won’t need floral wire or hot glue to attach the plants and flowers.
Start by adding the foliage and wild flowers to the bottom. Just weave through the frame a couple times. Layer the branches so that it follows the curve of the wreath. I like to create asymmetrical coverage with the foliage and flowers, but you can cover the entire wreath.
The flowers need a little more weaving if the stems are limp. I just pulled the ranunculus stems through the wreath once and tucked the ends. To keep the wreath fresh just spritz a little water every couple of hours.
There you go! A simple flower DIY you can try Saturday morning. Make your home a little a prettier and happier.
Have a wonderful weekend!
