Last week I shared my living room and its need to be, well, decorated! All of our functional pieces are there but it still needs color and texture. The past several days were spent brainstorming and browsing. My favorite style? Probably best described as French rustic & romantic.
My little reading chair, vintage side table and our bistro-like dining table led me to that style. I have a few ideas so far, but definitely still a work-in-progress. Here’s my design brainstorm . . .
A few of these items are from same stores, but I am hoping to explore antique stores to find similar pieces. The coffee table would be the most expensive addition, but I’ve found several more affordable versions. My Pinterest board includes comparable styles. In case you’re unfamiliar with Joss & Main, a lot of the same items are available on Wayfair even after the sale event ends.
My favorite item is the loveseat. I have wanted this since it first came out a year ago and now finally have the space for it. Its perfect spot? Right in front of our window so I can look out and view the lake a few blocks away!
This weekend my husband and I wandered through a couple stores and visited fabric suppliers to get ideas. I’m definitely planning to sew a few throw pillows on my new Singer sewing machine! The custom pillows will add delightful pops of color to our neutral seating. While browsing Joss & Main, I discovered the bench shown below (now sold out) and am inspired to re-upholster our grey ottomans with the same fabric. It goes perfectly with our beautiful red china cabinet in our dining area!
I’m so looking forward to finishing our living room this year. I love decorating and recently started sharing my skills with friends! This weekend I helped one of my best friends purchase a sofa. I created a budget for all the major pieces for her living room and made a quick layout sketch. These are first steps for any room design or really any project. Never walk into a store without having some idea of how much you can spend and what you “need” to purchase. Otherwise, you’ll end up buying way to much or something you don’t love. I should have studied this in college instead!
